Frequently Asked Questions

Still not sure? Answers to your F.requently A.sked Q.uestions:

Q

So…What is Connected Potential all about?

A

We believe that everyone is at their best when doing something that they are passionate about. We want to help you to live your passion, build your leadership and professional skills, and make the world a better place, all at the same time. But doing change work isn’t easy—it requires knowledge, collaboration, advice, and partnerships. We want to help you get the information and insight you need to take action and make the change you want to see in the world.

Q

Who does Connected Potential work with?

A

We work with young adults, often just entering the professional sphere. We know that you guys are primed and ready to make a difference, but let’s face it—things are tough out there. It’s tough to get a job, let alone a job that is in your field of interest or empowers you to make a positive difference in the world. Connected Potential can’t promise you your dream job, but we can promise to help you have an impact, follow your passion, and build your skills in a way that will set you apart from the crowd.

Q

How does the application process work?

A

We ask that everyone submit a proposal that lets us know more about the project you hope to implement. We will look at the problem you propose to address, the overall impact of the project/solution you propose, and how ready you are to implement your project once you begin the program. Complete guidelines and selection criteria can be found in the Connected Potential Proposal Guide.

Q

What is the time commitment?

A

Things will move quickly once you are selected for the program. The program lasts 6 to 8 weeks, and you should expect to begin as soon as you are notified of acceptance. During the program, you can expect three hourly video chats with a business advisor who will help you develop an action plan and advise you on the organizational aspects of your project. You can also expect 1 to 2 calls with a professional mentor who has skills related to your project. You will have work to do during each week to follow up on your conversations, so expect to have fun and stay busy!

Q

How are catalysts selected?

A

Connected Potential seeks out catalysts who have a passion and commitment for collaboration towards social good. Catalysts are professionals who have volunteered their time to help young adults with social change projects. We work with all catalysts to learn about their specific skill sets and social good interests and pair them with projects that match those skill sets and interests.

Q

Does Connected Potential offer funding for social good projects?

A

Connected Potential does not currently offer funding for social good projects. We do offer advice and resources from professionals on how to procure funding. We are also partnered with Start Some Good, a crowdsourcing platform that helps raise funds for social good projects.

Q

I applied and didn’t get in. Now what?

A

At Connected Potential, we want to provide an open door to anyone who wants to make a positive difference in the world. To make our services as accessible as possible, we offer them at no cost to accepted applicants, and accept proposals on an ongoing basis. We do want to make sure that people accepted into the program are ready to take advantage of our services, and there is a limit to how many people we can work with at one time. If you are not initially accepted into the program, do not be discouraged! Chances are that we like your idea, but think that it needs to be developed further. Anyone who is not initially accepted will receive a personal e-mail detailing the parts of the proposal that could use some additional work. We will keep your file open, and you will have the opportunity to re-apply for a reduced fee.
